The item
The estimate should begin with what is leaving, how many items there are, approximate size, material type, and whether anything is attached, built in, unusually heavy, or potentially requires disassembly.

Ask which room or level contains the item and whether the route includes stairs, landings, narrow turns, low ceilings, railings, finished walls, fragile fixtures, or other restrictions.
The property exit
Ask which door, garage, basement exit, elevator, or other approved exit can be used. Do not assume the nearest visible door is always suitable.
The loading position
Ask about driveway availability, street or alley access, gates, parking restrictions, loading distance, and any property-management instructions.

A carrying route is more than a door width
The purpose of access planning is to identify the safest practical method—not to guarantee that every item will fit through the first proposed exit.
Item dimensions
The item must be evaluated in its current assembled condition, including protruding arms, legs, handles, and attached sections.
Turns and elevation changes
A route may include stair landings, railings, low ceilings, slopes, exterior steps, or sharp directional changes.
Disassembly
Some freestanding furniture may be easier to remove in sections, but the approach depends on how it was constructed and whether it can be handled safely. Not every item can or will be disassembled.
Fragile surroundings
Identify delicate flooring, walls, trim, railings, glass, landscaping, vehicles, and other nearby property that may affect the route.
Loose objects and pets

When Oakwood's special pickup may be enough
The City of Oakwood currently recommends scheduling a special pickup for large or bulk items and states that each property owner receives two free special pickups per year. This may be a practical option when the material qualifies, the customer can meet the city's preparation requirements, and the city's schedule fits the project.
