Ready for pickup
Your appliance is generally ready when it is freestanding, completely empty, disconnected from every utility, and reachable through a clear removal path.

Preparation still needed
Complete the required preparation before scheduling removal if the appliance is still connected, installed, full, frozen, or holding water.

How to prepare each appliance for removal
Different appliances create different preparation and safety concerns. Our standard appliance-removal service begins after the unit has been safely disconnected. Use these requirements to prepare for the appointment; when a gas, hardwired electrical, plumbing, or installation connection is involved, arrange for an appropriately qualified professional.
Refrigerators and freezers
Remove all food, ice, and personal items. Defrost the appliance when necessary, drain and dry any remaining water, and secure or remove loose interior shelves. The power cord and any water or ice-maker line must be disconnected before pickup.
Washing machines
Empty the drum and arrange for the water supply and drain hoses to be disconnected. Drain residual water as thoroughly as possible and tell us if the washer is in a basement, recessed laundry space, or stacked installation.
Electric and gas dryers
Remove clothing and loose items from the drum. Electric dryers must be unplugged and the vent detached. A gas dryer must be disconnected from its gas supply by a qualified professional before our arrival.
Stoves, ranges, and ovens
The appliance must be cool, empty, and free from its utility connection. Gas connections and hardwired electrical connections require qualified service. Built-in ovens must also be released from cabinets, trim, and mounting hardware before pickup.
Dishwashers and built-in appliances
A dishwasher or other built-in unit must be fully disconnected from power, water, and drainage and detached from the surrounding cabinetry. Zach's Pack should not be scheduled as the uninstalling contractor.
Other household appliances
Microwaves and other freestanding household appliances may be accepted as part of an approved pickup. Contact us first about commercial equipment, cooling equipment, unusually heavy units, or an appliance not listed on this page.
Removal starts where installation ends
Appliance hauling and appliance installation are different jobs. Establishing that boundary before the appointment avoids delays and makes the estimate more accurate.

The pickup plan depends on where the appliance sits
A refrigerator beside an exterior door is a different removal job from a washer in a basement or a range inside an upstairs apartment. Tell us the appliance's exact location so we can evaluate access before arrival.
Kitchen or first-floor appliance
Report narrow doorways, islands, counters, flooring transitions, and exterior steps. Clear loose rugs, chairs, pet gates, and other movable objects from the route.
Basement or lower-level appliance
Send photos of the appliance, the complete staircase, landings, turns, and the exit door. Mention narrow steps, low ceilings, exterior bulkhead doors, or limited space at the top and bottom of the stairs.
Apartment or condominium
Confirm the floor number and whether the building has an elevator. Tell us about elevator reservations, loading areas, parking restrictions, entry codes, or building scheduling requirements.
Garage, shed, or curbside location
Explain whether the appliance is inside a structure or already staged outside. It must still be empty and disconnected. Also report gates, gravel, slopes, soft ground, or restricted vehicle access.
Photos that show both the appliance and its removal path are more useful than a close-up of the appliance alone.
Replacing an appliance? Plan the handoff
Removal timing matters when a new appliance is being delivered. A small amount of planning can prevent the old unit from blocking installation or being removed before the replacement is confirmed.
Confirm the retailer's policy
Ask whether the delivery company includes haul-away, what it charges, and whether the old appliance must already be disconnected. Retailer policies vary.
Confirm the replacement will fit
Verify the new appliance's measurements, utility requirements, delivery window, and installation plan before permanently removing the old unit.
Arrange safe disconnection
Schedule any required plumber, electrician, gas technician, or installer early enough that the old appliance is ready before hauling.
Choose the removal window
If the retailer is not taking the old unit, schedule Zach's Pack after disconnection and at a time that does not interfere with delivery access.

Why appliances require different handling
Old appliances are not always handled like ordinary household junk. Many units contain substantial metal components, while refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and similar equipment may contain refrigerants or other materials that require an appropriate receiving facility.
